Product Description
Time for your blind student or child to learn fractions? This colorful, multi-sensory set provides hands-on practice with manipulating fractions of different values. The 25-piece set consists of a durable wooden board and six round plastic disks divided into fractions of varying sizes. Represented are eighths, sixths, quarters, thirds, halves and a whole.
On every piece, the numeric fraction is indicated in perfect raised Braille dots, and also engraved in regular print. "1" appears on the whole circle, "1/2" on each of the halves, "1/3" on the thirds, etc.
Each circle consists of enough pieces to make it complete. In other words, there are eight eighths, six sixths, four quarters, and so forth.
Because the board has six circular cavities to hold the pieces firmly in place, students can practice sorting, manipulating, adding and subtracting fractions any way they want. For example: two 1/4 pieces and four 1/8 pieces fit neatly into one cavity on the board.
The board is the size of a letter-size sheet of paper (8-1/2" X 11"), and half an inch thick. Each disk measures 3" in diameter and also half an inch thick. The pieces are easy to grasp and manipulate, even for youngsters still developing fine motor skills or mastering tactile identification.
Low vision kids will appreciate the colorful design of this Braille fraction kit. The board is tan in color, and each of the six disks are different colors - white, blue, red, green, yellow, and black. The Braille dots are either white or black, to contrast nicely with the color of the disks.
A truly hands-on approach to mastering fractions, this set offers a multitude of educational opportunities. Proudly handmade in the USA - from our workshop to your classroom!
Nemeth Braille is used in this set; Unified English Braille coming soon!
